The increased amount of emergency medicine jobs is leading many individuals into new fields of work, as well as directing students into a field that is thriving and in high demand.

The rigorous training to obtain emergency medicine jobs is a tough road, but in the end it’s worth the time as well as the effort.

Education

The requirement for taking the first steps into the field of Emergency Medicine is enrolling in a Pre-Med program at a local university or state college. There you will fulfill all the requirements needed to apply to medical school including:

BAS Standard Requirements

Speech
Social Science
Political science
Language
History

Biology I and II
Composition I and II
Chemistry I ans II
Algebra
Pre Calculus
Calculus
Statistics
Trigonometry

Organic Chemistry
Inorganic Chemistry
Physics I and II
Anatomy I and II

This is just a starting point for you. Typically, every college has their own set curriculum so it’s up to you to find out which classes will satisfy your BAS degree. Many students looking into the medical field will focus their Bachelors Degree towards Biology. This will give you all the requirements necessary to apply to the Medical school of your choosing.

Tip
Make sure you maintain at least a 3.4 GPA or better before applying. Of course, there are exceptions, and it is possible to get accepted in a medical school by passing you entrance exam with a competitive score. However, just remember that the students that do maintain a high GPA as well as receiving a high score on their MCAT test will have a much better shot of getting into the school of their choice.

After you fulfill all of your course requirements for Pre-Med, you will have to take the MCAT test. The MCAT’s is the Medical College Admission Test that will access your writing and reading skills, critical thinking, in addition to knowledge of scientific concepts and principles.

At the end of your training, you will be required to handle such tasks as medical, surgical, and psychiatric emergencies. You will also be responsible for the stabilization of patients in emergency condition.

Most graduated doctors will look for fellowships available in the Emergency Medical field in such areas as sports medicine, research, pediatrics, radiology, and many more options.

A Happy Medium With Satellite TV

Most children love television. This is a commonly known fact and it is an issue that parents can struggle with. While many people enjoy television, there are a lot of negative things said about the damaging effects that too much television watching can have on the brain, especially those of developing children. Fortunately, a lot of television programs have adapted to this concern and there are more and more educational shows available than ever before, especially for individuals with satellite TV. The large array of channels means that parents and children can watch programs together, bonding and learning at the same time.

Channels like Disney and Nickelodeon have cartoons that teach children how to count, read, and even learn Spanish. Even programs that do not have blatantly obvious lessons like adding and subtracting still try to teach children a lesson. Many shows are filled with entertaining stories that revolve around a moral that they want to convey to the child audience. Having a giant purple dinosaur that they love tell them to be nice to other children in high definition will get the point across much better than having a parent or teacher lecture them about right and wrong.

Aside from cartoons there are plenty of educational channels that children and adults can both benefit from. Watching the “Planet Earth” series together could open up the eyes of everyone in the family to different parts of the world and animals that they never knew existed. The variety of shows that satellite TV makes available can have a whole family traveling back in time together, learning about the city constructs and social practices of 15th century England or taking a virtual tour of the Roman Coliseum. Television has the unique ability to making learning more fun and interesting than the average day to day textbook.

Watching cooking shows, music videos, and travel shows can expose children to different cultures around the world. While all of this is good, not all of the material on television is suitable for children, but luckily parents can block certain channels from being accessed by kids. Being able to monitor which parts of satellite TV a child has access to increases the chances that their relationship with the TV will be an educational one. Just like adults, kids can travel the world from the comfort of their home using nothing more than their remote control.

While it is still not a good idea to leave a child in front of the television for hours on end everyday, letting them watch some truly educational programs could inspire them to get out and do something. Watching a great soccer game could motivate a child to head outside and kick a ball around, or hearing the announcer in another language could spark an interest in learning a second language. The wide variety of programs that satellite TV provides means there are multiple lessons to be learned and a vast amount of information for children to absorb. The television does not have to be viewed as the enemy of a developing child’s mind.

Direct TV offers the most HD anywhere. There are great Direct TV deals available now.

Travelling the Highways – Aging Parents and GPS Tracking

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Author: James Neely

There are few things more disconcerting than watching as your parents take to the interstate highways of America for their annual trek to warmer climates for the winter months. There are two reasons for concern.

First, the highways are not a friendly place. Not only are there inherent dangers from the possibility of accidents and the like but also from people with evil intent in their hearts. There have been too many stories that recount a tragedy that could have been avoided.

Next, there is concern for their well-being while they are travelling. Some people in the age group who travel in this way are not exactly 100% healthy. The fear that they could be caught out on the road somewhere and have a medical problem that needs immediate attention looms large.

That is why it is more important than ever to have their vehicles outfitted with a GPS Tracking system. Is this an incredible leap in logic?Maybe, but when a device is used that allows for real-time monitoring, family members can keep up to date with travel progress and make sure that they do not deviate from a pre-set course without some kind of communication.

Location/direction of travel/speed.Depending on the model selected, data can be gathered that tells the exact location, their speed, and direction of travel. If they are going on a long vacation, you can track their progress and note their stops and the time spent at specific sites and attractions. You can keep a log for them so that when they return, they can put pictures and locations to dates and times.

Peace of mind from knowing. Are they where they are supposed to be at the appointed time?If not, with a simple check on a website, you can discover their whereabouts.Did their car break down?If so, where are they and how can they be located by authorities? Are they in a traffic jam because of an accident? That would explain their stationary position on the map and interstate system.

Cell phone signals are weak in some areas, and remote sections of highway are sparsely travelled compared to others. In other words, help might not be readily available. But, nothing escapes the ‘eyes’ of a GPS Tracking system.

This fall, breathe a sigh of relief as you track the progress of Mom and Dad as they venture out.You will find that this is one of the best investments of a few hundred dollars that you will ever make.

Cendant TDS and IBS to jointly promote iRes

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Author: Anonymous
Source: free-articles

Trivandrum March 26, 2004 – IBS Software Services Pvt. Ltd. (IBS), a software solutions and services provider for the global travel, transportation and logistics domains, has entered into an agreement with Cendant Travel Distribution Services (TDS), an established world leader in travel distribution services, to form a strategic relationship to promote iRes – IBS’s innovative new Passenger Services System (PSS) designed to replace legacy systems in the airline industry.

iRes is the new-generation PSS technology IBS has developed, which comprehensively addresses the passenger reservations, inventory control, fares, ticketing and departure control needs of commercial airlines, while providing opportunities to improve airlines’ revenues, profitability and service quality, compared to legacy applications. Scheduled for completion in 2006, iRes is being developed and released in stages through three major product releases and nine sub-releases – with the first major release already available.

During the course of the relationship, IBS will have primary responsibility for product development and support, i.e., developing the iRes application suite and providing software maintenance and support services to iRes customers; while Cendant will have primary responsibility for product management, sales and marketing – i.e., for managing the world wide rollout and promotion of iRes, and providing iRes hosting services in an ASP (Application Service Provider) environment.

In announcing the agreement, Mr. V. K. Mathews, Chairman and Managing Director of IBS, said the alliance will be a realisation of the clear role IBS had visualised for a strategic partner that could fulfil its global vision for iRes: “Our vision is to make iRes the industry system of the future for passenger carriers. To do that, we needed a big player in the industry to promote iRes as the future PSS. We believe Cendant TDS fills this role exceptionally well. The domain know-how, technological competence and resource strength of IBS, coupled with the global presence, customer base and credibility of Cendant TDS, will make our alliance a success.”

Mr. Mathews pointed out that through this agreement, IBS will emerge on the world stage as a true PSS provider to the global airline industry – a field currently dominated only by a handful of large corporations. In his view iRes is “the single largest and most technologically challenging application to be built for the airline industry”.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. P. K. Kunhalikutty, Honorable Minister for Industries commended IBS on the alliance, saying, “This is a significant milestone in the development of IT in the State of Kerala, and the Government is pleased to announce its full support for the venture. IBS has been a promoter and supporter of the IT industry in the State, and with this new strategic partnership with Cendant TDS, the company has once again demonstrated its continued leadership in IT”.

Ms. Flo Lugli, Senior Vice President, Airline Solutions, for Cendant’s Travel Distribution Services division, praised the development of iRes, saying, “The global air travel industry has been badly in need of a new-generation system to support the rapidly changing business processes and evolving business models, and iRes meets this need superbly”.

The industry currently depends on two core technological systems to manage its business – Passenger Services Systems and Cargo Services Systems. Both of these core systems are legacy applications that have been developed over the last 40 years. As legacy applications, they have become very expensive to maintain and operate, and the support resources needed for them have become harder to find. In addition, it is very difficult and time consuming for airlines to implement changes to these legacy applications in response to changing business needs. It was precisely to redress this situation that IBS embarked on a strategic initiative in 2001 to develop iRes.

Ms. Lugli said, “We are very pleased to partner with IBS on this exciting new technology. With more than 500 airline relationships across TDS and a large portfolio of our own industry-leading products and services, Cendant TDS is firmly committed to providing best-in-class solutions to the air travel industry – and iRes is clearly a world-class product. iRes supplements and complements our existing products and services, and will be one of our major, differentiating offerings to the industry”.

According to Mr. Mathews, the functional coverage and packaging provided by iRes serves the demanding, real-time needs of all passenger airlines, from low cost carriers to full-service carriers – and its technology and application architecture addresses both functional and non-functional requirements (e.g., performance, uptime and availability). The system is scalable and can be customized to suit the needs of an individual airline. It can be operated on standard Unix boxes (Sun/IBM) and does not require proprietary hardware or software. Its multi-hosting capabilities make it an attractive option for hosting service providers.

The press conference at which the alliance was announced was also attended by Mr. Kevin Haskins, Director Hosting Services (Cendant), Mr. Peter Krebs, Chief Operating Officer IBS Americas, Mr. Basil Mathew, General Manager Delivery Services (IBS), Mr. Suresh Verghese, Vice President Global Business Services (IBS) and other senior officials from IBS.

Delhi, one of the oldest continually inhabited cities of the world, is also the second largest metropolis in India. It can be easy to feel lost amidst the staggering population that is around 13 million and more so if you happen to be a visitor or a newcomer to the city. The newcomers can therefore be seen battling it out on their own with roadmaps in place and frantically stopping people on the road to ask for directions to the nearest restaurant, movie hall, medicine store, retail shop and almost any such place. Overview Of Istanbul's Transportation Network For Travelers

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

Author: H.Silistre
Source: articledashboard.com

Istanbul has a well-established transportation network with bus routes reaching almost everywhere, trains from both Asia and Europe making it into the very city center, boats and ferries along the Bosphorus, a clean and fast subway although it only serves a route with limited stations. Yellow cabs are easy to find almost everywhere in the city and they are not expensive at all. They all charge using a meter and it does not cost much to ride cabs around the city unless the distance is really long. However, some taxi drivers are known to turn the ride into a thrill or a speed race which is not really fun unless you are late for your flight. Tipping is not necessary at the cabs but you can round up to the next lira. You do not have to leave any extra cash after that. The traffic, however, tends to slow down a lot or almost stop at many intersections during the rush hours. The city center, however, has a lot to offer so this might be the ideal time of the day to take a walk around and discover the city.

On most of the popular routes, it is possible to take a shared cab which is called ‘Dolmus”. They are slightly bigger than cabs and they are yellow as well. The sign on the top reads ‘Dolmus” instead of “Taksi” . Most of them have a seating capacity of approximately 10 people and they charge a flat fee along the route. You can take the city ferry to ply over the Bosporus in all directions from one continent to another. One of the best ways to explore Istanbul is to do so on water. That is really a sight while you will have the advantage of paying nothing more than a regular transportation charge. For a short trip from the European side, just hop on a ferry to Uskudar and you can be back in an hour.

If you are planning on riding the ferry, the bus or the subway, it is advisable to purchase “akbil” which is a pre-paid electronic chip embedded on a plastic similar to a key fob. You can use your pre-paid credit on the Akbil and you will have access to city’s transportation network with just a tap. There is always a direct bus service between the airports and Taksim. Taksim is the center of the transportation network, with buses, subways and dolmus’ coming in from various destinations of the city. Taksim bus stop and the central subway station is only a few minutes from where Hotel Lamartine is located.

If you will arrive Istanbul by car, your safest option will be to park it in a parking lot and take advantage of other transportation opportunities during your stay. For a western driver, Istanbul’s traffic can prove to be really difficult to navigate in, the streets can get complicated and the local drivers sometimes may not be patient enough to show enough respect to slower drivers.

How Luggage Gets Lost and What You Can Do

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

Author: Caterina Christakos
Source: ezinearticles.com

Whenever I’m waiting at a baggage carousel for my luggage to come through, there’s always a voice in the back of my mind saying that it’s not going come-that, with the millions of things that can go wrong in an airport, why should I expect my bags to be in the right place? And when you add in all the other annoyances that go along with flying these days, both in the airports and on the cramped, smelly planes, the airlines haven’t exactly earned my trust lately. I’m always half expecting them to lose my luggage simply through sheer ineptitude and carelessness. But, for most of my life so far, I’ve been lucky.

That is, until recently: Traveling from Denver to New York on a major domestic carrier that shall remain nameless, I arrived at JFK only to find-after hours of waiting around, making calls, and dealing with unhelpful customer representatives-that my bags were in Phoenix. Things turned out fine; I got my luggage back within two days. But the experience left me wondering, how does luggage get processed, and how does it get lost? What can do to make sure it gets to the right place?

Where Baggage Goes after Check-in
When checking in, you hand your bag to an airline employee, who affixes a barcode that contains details about you, your address, your flight, and your destination. The bag then gets sent into the inner workings of the airport, where a network of conveyor belts electronically reads the barcode and directs your bag to the correct flight. This is the first area where things can go wrong. Barcodes may be poorly printed or partially obscured, or the check-in person may have entered an incorrect piece of information. In other cases, bags may slip off of the conveyor belt or get caught in the machinery. There are workers to fix these issues, but it may take a while to extract a stuck bag, which can cause it to miss its flight.

After the automated system delivers a bag to its destination, workers wheel them out in bins and load them onto the planes. In many airports, workers are taught to visually verify that the tags match the flight, but this doesn’t always happen, and human error is naturally a factor.

But the biggest trouble area of all is transferring luggage from one flight to another. A single flight may have passengers who will be transferring to as many as twenty different connecting flights. This presents obvious challenges to baggage handlers, but when you add in factors like late flights, bad weather, and tight time crunches, you can see how problems might occur. The good news is that, when bags miss their connections, they’re usually still on the grid, and they can easily be forwarded to their destination on the next flight.

Tips for Preventing Lost Luggage
1. Carry your bags: When possible, the best solution is not to check your bags. Airlines are becoming more strict about carry-on procedures, but if you’re just taking a short trip, pack lightly. Fit everything into one medium bag, and keep it close to you.

2. Put your contact information on your bag: Attach a hand-written tag with all of your contact information. In the event of a barcode error, your hand-written tag is the only way to trace your bag to you.

3. Check in early, and book connecting flights that leave plenty of time: Tight time-frames are the main reason why bags get lost. The more time airline employees have to get your bag to the right place, the better.

4. Remove old barcode tags: This is a no-brainer, but it’s also easy to forget. Even in the same trip, your bags will require new tags for the return journey, so take the old ones off as soon as you think about it.
